The Origin of Battery Express

In the summer of 1999, Eiston "Jay" Joyner had a $200 loan and a dream to build the most successful battery business in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Today, he is very close to making his dream a reality.

Elston Joyner, along with his wife, Gloria Joyner, are the owners of Battery Express, Inc.., a battery retail, whole-sale, service and installation business located at 3401 West Broward Boulevard, Lauderhill FL 33312.

When Elston started the company, it was a "one man" operation on his mother's patio. Eight years later, Battery Express has grown into one of the community's leading businesses, featuring a fleet of service trucks and major accounts including the Port Everglades Public Works Department and City of Oakland Park Fleet Services.

Battery Express features a trademark BEX battery line that includes sealed lead acid, absorbent glass mat (AGM), gel, nickel cadmium, and deep cycle batteries. In addition, the line includes automotive, fleet, marine, industrial and emergency back-up batteries.

As the first African-American owned battery company in the United States, the Joyners are positioning Battery Express to dominate the local battery market. They are expanding their distribution network and marketing the BEX battery line as a superior product available at a lower price than competitors. The Joyner's hard work is paying off as Battery Express continues to secure high profile accounts throughout south Florida.

This family-owned and operated business has come along way since the days when Elston operated on his mother's patio. But through it all, the company has continued to provide a quality product at an affordable price.
